How to Change the Host in 'Sons of the Forest' Multiplayer Saves? Host Change Method#
In Sons of the Forest, only the host who saved the game can save and reload it. All other players depend on the host having time and wanting to continue playing. If that's not the case, it usually means: a new saved game—but not so fast! Guided has learned how to change the host and unlock saves for all other players.
This article will discuss how to save the items obtained by players when joining as a client while changing the host.
Prerequisites#
Before switching the host, each player must have created a multiplayer lobby at least once; otherwise, the game save directory will not contain the necessary folders.
Steps#
- First, navigate to the following directory
C:\Users\{username}\AppData\LocalLow\Endnight\SonsOfTheForest\Saves\{SteamID}
Note: AppData is a hidden directory by default. Please go to the menu bar--view--show/hide--{check hidden items} or directly press Win+R and type appdata
- Here, three folders will appear
- Multiplayer
- MultiplayerClient
- SinglePlayer
Among them, Multiplayer contains the relevant saves made as the host, while MultiplayerClient records some items and equipment as a joining player when joining someone else's room.
Note: Please click on the modified date to sort the folders by time, making it easier to identify the relevant save progress. Alternatively, you can directly open GameStateSaveData.json
to identify the save based on the relevant survival days and exact save time.
- To complete the host identity switch, copy the relevant personal data from the
MultiplayerClient
folder to theMultiplayer
folder.
Typically, there are 7 related files in the MultiplayerClient
folder, but we only need 5 configuration files:
- PlayerArmourSystemSaveData
- PlayerClothingSystemSaveData
- PlayerInventorySaveData
- PlayerRetrieveDroppedInventoryActionSaveData
- PlayerStateSaveData
Note: Be sure not to replace GameStateSaveData.json
or SaveData.json
, as these files record important in-game data. Replacing them may cause game anomalies, including but not limited to the disappearance of Kevin and Virginia.
